The
bathroom should be a sanctuary of relaxation and cleanliness, though rarely is
either. Though many of us would love to pull out the sink, shower and toilet
and have a whole new suite fitted, the budget might not accommodate.
Well, fear
not, here are some quick and easy ways to transform your bathroom.
Hate the
tiles? Then paint over them. Tile paint, now widely available in most DIY
stores, is much tougher and more water resistant than ordinary paint,
making it suitable for bathrooms. Plus it won't peel off. Generally tiles
require two coats of paint and drying time can be around four hours, but you'll
be amazed at the result. A neutral colour can also make the bathroom seem
larger.
Replace
old curtains with a new roller
blind - these are generally cheaper to buy than to make and can really
turn the window into a focal point. Pick a soothing, calm colour. Make sure the
blind has time to dry out before you roll it back up to prevent mildew forming.
Buy new
towels, bath mats and accessories as a way to introduce colour to the
room. These can all be picked up fairly cheaply and the great thing is you can
change the colour scheme easily, whenever you like. Matching accents can give
the bathroom a cohesive and modern appearance.
Employ
some clever storage solutions to hide away the kids' bath toys, cosmetics and
cleaning products. Ideally chose something with drawers or doors that can be
shut, keeping the contents out of sight. Wooden units could be painted to match
the tiles, if you were striving for an unbroken, harmonious look
Replace
that speckled, moulding old mirror with an inexpensive new one. Choose a frame
that fits in with the bathrooms' decor or, as above, paint a wooden frame to
match the new tiles.
Follow
these tips and you'll be amazed at the transformation, all achieved without
much impact on your wallet.
