Despite doing as much as you can to combat and prevent water damage from occurring in your home to your belongings, sometimes certain circumstances hinder you from doing anything about water damage.

No matter what we do to keep from having water damage, sometimes it is just out of our hands. For example, if you build a shed outside or you have to redo your old roof and it happens to rain before you can get the new stuff on your new wood, you will have moisture in this wood that will cause water damage.

If you have a large yard sale that might last a couple of days and you don't take everything in at night or at least cover everything at night, you will run into the chance of having water damages setting into your items because of the moisture that can happen or maybe because the temperature dropped.

If you live in an older home that you rent you will find out that you will have water damage that you can't get rid of, and sometimes this will also leave you with the musty smell that you most usually have in older homes, and there is nothing you can do to remove it. If the water damage is too bad, you might ask your landlord to have it removed but if it is too bad, you might either have to move or learn to live with the problem.

If the landlord is told about a big problem such as the roof of your home being in really bad condition because of old water damage and you think that it should be redone and he refuses to fix it, then you can take him into court and make him do the repairs. You can also make him pay for your living expenses, such as a motel room, until the work is done. Some of the landlords of today think that all they have to do is have places to rent and not have to make sure that the upkeep of the home is up to safety standards. I think that if a home is unsafe for a family to live in, then anyone should not be able to rent it out until it is.

Most of your older homes will have some kinds of water damage that you just can't repair or replace because of where it is or how long it's been there. In most cases like these, you will just have to try to find some way to cover up the problem, or maybe you can put in a machine to help remove all the moisture that might be trapped in the walls or floors.
