Preventing Your Pipes From Freezing In The Winter

When winter comes and it starts to get really cold outside, you need to protect your house from frozen pipes and the water damage that can come from it. When it gets really cold and it starts to freeze, your pipes can freeze up, crack, or break if the bottom of your house is not covered up or if the pipes have nothing around them. Freezing pipes only come when the temperature drops to a freezing point, like 30 degrees or below zero. It is not a fun thing to wake up in the morning to. You may not have any water or you can have water on your floors.
When it freezes up, you will not have water coming into your house, and you will have to go outside in the cold to get it thawed to get the water to flow again. You have to make sure that you have the faucet on low or you can bust a pipe. You can use a hair dryer or a heater to thaw it, but it will take you a long time to do this. It also depends on how bad the pipe is frozen and where it is at because it can be hard to get to. The frozen pipes can even be under the ground, and you will hav
e to get the water company to come out and find where it is. It will cost you because they have to dig up the ground to get to the pipe.
When a pipe cracks, you will have water getting all over your floor and all over the ground. The crack can get bigger as it goes. Then you will need to go to town and get a whole new pipe to replace it, but make sure you turn off the water before you do this because you can't do it otherwise. It doesn't matter if you have copper plumbing, which is not good to have for a pipe or plastic piping. It still can crack, and it will still do a lot of damage if there is a leak in your home.

Your hot water heater can break a pipe and put water all over your floors, and you can have a flood all through your home. It will soak into your walls and in your carpet. When it does that, it will get into your appliances and your furnitures, and it can ruin them. When it breaks on the outside, you will have a pretty good size hole in the pipes, and you will have to shut off your water to make the spraying stop.
