There are so many ways of being environmentally friendly. In the recent years, the environment has become one of the hot topics to discuss around the water cooler. Global warming, trash accumulation, pollution, all of these things concern everyone on earth today. Our very existence has been challenged because of the problems that we, as humans, have been a party to. Our existence has changed the surface of the earth. Was this meant to be? Are we really to blame for the problems the earth is having?

In some ways, we are responsible for the mess the earth has become in some places. It is because of this that the environmental act has been going on among the people of earth. Everyone should be concerned. Those who are not should be, those who are take action.

The amount of pollution we contribute to the atmosphere is of great concern to many people. We all want clean water to drink, bathe in and clean with. Water that is polluted by trash, debris and dead plants and animals is a breeding ground for infestation and disease. Insects and pests are attracted to moist, dirty atmospheres and these insects are harmful to people and to the environment.

Harmful products should never be dumped into lakes or rivers, even if those bodies of water are not directly responsible for supplying the people in nearby towns or cities. Conventional water softeners are often used to make an attempt at resolving hard water problems. Unfortunately, these systems are difficult to install, usually extremely expensive and not at all environmentally friendly.

When there is the presence of a hard water problem, people should look for solutions that are friendly to the earth and the environment, that are chemical free and, of course, within their personal budget. There is no good that can come from spending a lot of money and harming the earth.

A good way to show concern for the environment is to make sure that all appliances used in the home are energy efficient and in good working order. Use energy saving light bulbs that last longer. It is interesting to note that countertops and cabinets can now be made from recycled glass, marble and other materials that would otherwise be filling up a landfill.

Many appliances today are rated with an energy star to let the consumer know whether or not it is energy efficient and eco-friendly. Refrigerators are energy hogs. They will suck up most of the energy in the home. This is one of the first appliances that should be considered on an energy using basis. Dishwashers are also high up on the list and should be controlled for not only energy but water usage, as well. However, because of advanced technology, they actually use a lot less water than the more traditional method of handwashing.

Microwave ovens are more environmentally beneficial than one might think at first. Running a conventional oven takes a great deal more energy than microwaves and it is suggested that for a significant energy and electricity savings, use the microwave instead much more frequently, whenever possible.
