Window blinds are among the most commonly used as coverings on your windows. They can be used to control the light, noise, privacy, and some other things. If you want these window blinds to last longer than how you would have, you need to maintain their cleanliness. While you are on the process of cleaning, you need to put some rags underneath the windows so that you will not have to clean up the floor later on. Here are some tips that will make your cleaning so much easier for your window coverings.

Shutter or Wood Blind
Use a vacuum that has bristles on them and power this on to dust off and clean each wooden slat. They will be shiny and clean as they had when you first installed them. Clean both sides of the slat and the head rails as well. Aside from vacuum, feather dusters can also be used to keep the dust off the slat. You just have to keep the duster moving along each slat. However, it would be ideal to use a feather duster with magnetic properties to really absorb the dust off the blinds. Traditional feather duster would only transfer the dust from one area to another. Micro fibre cloths can be used as good duster as well. Shaking the duster will do for each slat. One thing that you really need to avoid would be to get the blinds wet. Wet wood would become warped later on which will leave them destroyed and non-functional.

Faux Wood Blinds
These are made of fake wood which means that they can be cleaned in other ways than what you used to with wood blinds. This time, you can use damp cloth with a little drop of liquid cleanser into it. Another cleaning solution would be to use vacuum and individually dust off the gathered dirt and dust particles on each faux wood slat.

Aluminium Blinds
These need once a week cleaning so that you would not have too much cleaning then if it could accumulate days of dust and dirt. When the dust would not remain long on the blinds, this means that you can clean them off easier. Micro fibre and specially treated dust cloth can be used to clean off these blinds. Put a proactive cover on the floor to keep from messing it up which means more work. Damp cloth or sponge can be used for each slat. But first, the cloth has to be dipped into the bucket of semi-warm water on a bucket that also has cleaning detergent. You may also remove the blinds so that you can scrub them off better in the bath tub with either warm or cold water. They just have to be rinsed or dried off afterwards.

Shades or Fabric Blinds
The newer fabric blinds or shades now have anti-static features that keep more dust off. Vacuum cleaner can also be used to clean the fabric. The bristles will do their job or primarily removing the dust. Damp cloth with a bit of cleaning detergent can be used but this should not be done often.
